8th International Conference on Additive Technologies

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maribor and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia and the Rapid Prototyping and Innovative Manufacturing Network - RAPIMAN are organising the 8th International Conference on Additive Technologies, which will be held in Maribor, Slovenia, from April 19-22, 2023.

Over the past 16 years, iCAT has brought together many scientists with many different interests and a common passion for inventing, developing, and enjoying the possibilities of 3D printing. What is surprising in this ever-growing industry is that "additive manufacturing (AM) machine tool" manufacturers are struggling to keep up with the pace of industrial development. Instead of providing data on productivity, reliability and serviceability, companies are passing along the same old maintenance schedules, and it is not becoming an issue as long as it brings revenue to the machine manufacturers. As interest in new 3D printing technologies and their applications grows tremendously, the authors of this edition of the conference address various technological and medical aspects, ranging from materials science to the specific behaviour of the technology under different working conditions. Hence, the primary goal of iCAT is therefore to create a platform, where new potential fields of 3D printing will be enlightened.

The secondary goal of iCAT is to create a platform where engineering and medicine can collaborate to overcome the limitations of 3D printing's applicability and the barriers to its adoption. Especially encouraging was the presence of medical doctors at what was first a purely engineering conference. However, the increasing collaboration between doctors and engineers proves that an interdisciplinary approach leads to better healthcare in general.

This October we will once again gather additive manufacturing experts, researchers, experienced users, and newcomers in Maribor, Slovenia's 3D printing capital to unveil their latest research and development news.

THE PAPERS WILL BE PUBLISHED IN THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGIES 2023 IN SPRINGER NATURE BOOK SERIES.

Authors of 5 selected papers will be invited to publish extended versions of their papers in Rapid Prototyping Journal.

Venue of iCAT 2023

iCAT 2023 will be held in Maribor, the Slovenian 3D printing capital. Maribor, which is also one of the main industrial hubs in the region, surrounded by hills capped with vineyards, lying between the evergreen mountains of Pohorje. City has a lot to offer to a visitor regardless to one's travelling preferences. Culinary arts of many chefs in plenty of local restaurants and superb wine are good reasons to visit Maribor, the same is also true for the sunny hills around the city offering many opportunities to burn the consumed calories. If none of these can persuade a passing traveller, the exceptional ballet ensemble of the Maribor National Theatre will certainly guarantee a spectacular evening in the city. There have been more than 180.000 people who visit Maribor each year among which foreign students provide some constant multicultural presence and enrich the student life in the city.

More information and reasons to visit Maribor can be found here: maribor-pohorje.si

The city established its university in 1975 to fulfil the needs of the developing industry. The roots of the university begin in 1959 when the Higher Technical School was established and started to train the first engineers for evolving industry. In 2002 the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the successor of the Higher Technical School, started its research activities in Additive Manufacturing and remained on the forefront of its development in Slovenia.

This is the environment that will host the International Conference on Additive Technologies for the third time.
